The memorial is designed to tell the stories of the people who are represented, and their families. The sculpture, which has a hole right through the chest, represents the emptiness the addict is always trying to fill with their using. It also represents the emptiness the loved one feels when somebody they love loses their battle with addiction.
Behind the sculpture, you will find bricks engraved with the name of people who died in addiction, along with the date they died. In front of the sculpture, you will find the names of people who are walking in recovery, along with the date they began their recovery.
The Memorial serves as a place for families to come and find closure, while also offering the hope that recovery is possible, for those who are still struggling.
